Consumer Law

Consumer Rights & Protection

Consumer law safeguards buyers from unfair trade practices, defective products, and misleading advertising. EU directives like the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (2005/29/EC) ensure right to information, contract transparency, and legal remedies, protecting consumers against fraud, hidden fees, and aggressive marketing tactics.

Contractual Fairness & Consumer Transactions

Product Safety & Liability

Businesses must comply with EU product safety regulations such as the General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC) and international standards. Manufacturers and sellers are liable for defective goods, non-compliance with safety regulations, and harm caused to consumers under the Product Liability Directive (85/374/EEC), ensuring accountability and risk mitigation.

Dispute Resolution & Enforcement

Consumer contracts must adhere to fair terms, clear pricing, and right of withdrawal as per the Consumer Contracts Regulations. The EU Digital Services Act and E-Commerce Directive (2000/31/EC) regulate online transactions, dispute resolution, and contract enforcement, ensuring consumers receive accurate information and legal protection in digital marketplaces.

Consumers can seek legal remedies through alternative dispute resolution (ADR), online dispute resolution (ODR), and regulatory complaints. The EU Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) Regulation enables cross-border enforcement of consumer rights, ensuring companies comply with refund policies, warranty obligations, and fair trading practices to prevent unfair business conduct.
